This medieval long house beside Smithy Beck was visited as part of monitoring the archaeological sites in the valley. The site has been strimmed through the summer to make it more visible with the intention of developing a visitor guide leaflet to a number of archaeological sites across the valley. The walls of the house are thought to have been little higher than they are today. Originally it is though a wood framed wall was constructed on top of the stone and roof beams cantilevered across the twin walls into the central living space. The gap between the two walls is thought to have been used for storage.
