After a break of 3 months the slopes of Crag at the west end of the valley are woken to the sound of the felling and extraction of timber. The harvesting team have returned from working a site near Keswick so as not to disturb the arrival of the Bassenthwaite Ospreys which we hope will arrive back in the Lakes in the next few weeks. At Crag the team are harvesting a steep slope as part of the Wild Ennerdale Stewardship Plan proposals to allow this area to develop towards more open predominantly native woodland of oaks, birch and willow.
